In the Canadian Autumn, Canada Geese heading south for the winter fly along in a “V” formation. Consider what science has discovered about why they fly that way.

By flying in a V formation the whole flock adds at least 71% more flying range than would be possible if each bird flew on its own.

When a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go it alone. It quickly falls back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front.

When the head goose gets tired, it rotates back in the wing and another goose flies the point.

Geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.

Finally, and this is important, when a goose gets sick or wounded by gunshot and falls out of formation, two geese fall out with that goose and will follow it down to lend a help and protection. They will stay with the fallen goose until it is either able to fly or until it dies. Only then do they launch out on their own or with another formation to catch up with their own group.

The similarities between what happens in Nature and what we are striving to create in BNI are very strong. It is all about teamwork – and as you know, TEAM is an acronym for “Together Everybody Achieves More.”
